12 Animals That Are Masters of Camouflage
Eastern Screech Owl
- Class: Birds
- Order: Owls
- Family: True owls
- Habitat: Eastern USA
- Camouflage: Mimesis
Lots of animals use camouflage because they have no claws, teeth or other tools to defend themselves. The eastern screech owl isn#t one of these animals. It’s doesn't worry about attackers. It's the other way round: The bird doesn’t want to be seen by its prey. They’re helped by their brush-like ears, which look like broken branches.
Their name is very apt: These owls live in eastern America and their call really does sound like a screech. But you’re much more likely to hear these owls than see them.
Trick: Disguises itself as tree bark
