Famous Dogs Beginning With S
• Sunny – President Barack Obama’s dog
The former President of the United States had two dogs at his side: Bo and Sunny. Both are Portuguese Water Dogs, who look very cuddly with their curly, fluffy fur. It’s said that people with animal hair allergies deal with this breed better because they don’t really shed and only lose very few skin cells. There’s no guarantee, however, as everyone reacts differently and allergies sometimes develop as time goes on.

• Shana – saved people from freezing
As an old married couple got caught in a snowstorm, there were no police or firefighters nearby to help them. But they had their dog Shana, a cross between a wolf and a German Shepherd. They rescued her from a shelter, and she had a loving home with Eve and Norman. As the two were looking after injured animals on their land in Alden (New York State), a snowstorm suddenly broke out over head and a tree fell down, stopping them from getting back to the house. The couple were shivering from the cold and cowered in a woodshed. But Shana was with them, and she dug them a tunnel under the tree. Eve was already very weak from the extreme cold, so Shana rose to the occasion and helped Norman drag her through the tunnel to the house. A movie-worthy save!

• Sweet Pea – the little “circus horse”
Sweet Pea is a cute black and white Australian Shepherd and Border Collie cross. While most dogs only manage to break one record, she managed lots: according to the Guinness Book of World Records, Sweet Pea only needed 2 minutes and 55 seconds to run 328 feet (100 meters) with a drinks can on her head (can you do that?). She also walked ten steps backwards with a glass of water on her head. Also a record! But that’s not all: this dog also holds a record for skipping rope. She managed 75 jumps in one minute.
• Striker – rolls up car windows
Is that a thing? We know that cats can use door handles and that dogs can learn all kinds of tricks with enthusiasm. But there are probably only a few that can manage to roll up a car window. Striker even set a world record. According to the Guinness Book of World Records (2004) he only took 11.34 seconds. He used his nose under his paw to operate the handle and checked how much the window was open as he went. Striker is a Border Collie by the way. This breed is known for its intelligence!

• Snoopy – the best-known Beagle in the world
He likes lying on the roof of his doghouse, and thinking. That is, whenever he’s not looking into his bowl with frustration because his master Charlie Brown should have filled it. Snoopy also has a couple of unusual hobbies. For instance, he loves to dance. Did you know that “dog dancing” is a sport for dog owners? The dogs dance specific choreography around their owners. There are even world championships. Snoopy is also the pilot of a propeller plane and is a world-famous ice skater.
