Hurricane Katrina was one of the worst natural disasters in the USA (2005). Katrina was also the name of a black Labrador that heroically saved a man during the terrible storm. He nearly drowned in the water forced onto the land from the ocean. Katrina pulled him out of the water to higher ground.

In 2011, the sheepdog cross Kabang saved the lives of two girls in the Philippines. They were trying to cross the road and didn’t see an approaching motorbike. They would have been seriously injured if Kabang hadn’t been there. The dog ran towards the motorbike and jumped up. The girls got away with nothing but a shock. Sadly, Kabang’s upper jaw was lost, which resulted in deformity and problems eating. The family couldn’t afford an expensive operation but people from over 47 countries donated the money needed..

• Kyle – swallowed a 38 cm long knife

Kyle isn’t just the name of Gru’s dog in “Despicable Me”. There is also a real dog called Kyle that made his way into the Guinness Book of World Records (2002) for a really crazy record. Not on purpose, but because of an accident that could have ended fatally: he swallowed a knife measuring over 38cm. This alone is crazy enough, but Kyle was a small Collie/Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross measuring just 17.99 inch (45.7 cm) long. Luckily, a vet was able to remove the knife and Kyle recovered without serious injury. But: please never ever try this at home! Knives should always be kept out of reach of children and pets.

In Greek mythology, Kerberos is a hell hound that guards the gate to the underworld. He makes sure that the dead don’t get out and that no living people get in. Its name means something like “demon of the grave”. In most depictions, Kerberos has three heads and snake-like hair. He is said to have deadly breath and venomous drool.

K.K. Slider is a dog from the video game Animal Crossing. He’s a very relaxed dog that loves to play guitar and has mastered over 200 songs. He performs them for the players. Kyle is the fierce black dog belonging to Gru in “Despicable Me”. It’s questionable what breed this dog is but he could well be a Bulldog. In the movie, Kyle was first mischievous, aggressive and fierce and used his piranha teeth to bite anything that looked like food. But this changed throughout the movie. Maybe you also have a dog that was unfriendly to begin with but that warmed up over time.
